The events industry doesn’t have a “talent shortage.” It has a relevance problem. Young professionals aren’t avoiding our industry because they lack interest, they’re avoiding it because we’ve failed to clearly articulate the value of a career in events, provide credible on-ramps, and deliver early wins that justify long-term commitment. Career fairs, internships, and inspirational panels haven’t fixed the problem. In many cases, they’ve made it worse. This session will provide a case study into the Annabelle Project which was designed as a direct response to that failure.

Career fairs, internships, and inspirational panels haven’t fixed the problem. In many cases, they’ve made it worse. This session will provide a case study into the Annabelle Project which was designed as a direct response to that failure.
In this 45-minute, no-theory, case-study-driven session, Warwick Davies breaks down how a focused mentorship and exposure model has successfully moved college-age talent, particularly students from HBCUs and Hispanic-Serving Institutions, from industry-curious to industry-committed. This session challenges conventional “pipeline” thinking and replaces it with a practical, repeatable system for attracting, qualifying, and retaining young professionals who actually stay. If your organization is serious about talent, not optics, this session will give you a different way to think, decide, and act.
Learning Objectives
- Diagnose why most young professional initiatives fail, and identify the hidden assumptions that sabotage recruitment and retention efforts.
- Deconstruct the Annabelle Project model to understand how mentorship, access, and accountability create real career momentum, not temporary enthusiasm.
- Implement one immediately actionable shift that increases the perceived value of an events career to young professionals and strengthens long-term talent ROI.
IAEE webinars are free to members and available to non-members for $49.
$i++ ?>Warwick Davies
Founder
The Annabelle Project
Warwick Davies is the Founder of The Annabelle Project and Principal of The Event Mechanic!, where he helps event organizers and sponsors increase revenue, relevance, and long-term value by fixing what events actually do for buyers, exhibitors, and talent. With more than two decades in the global events and exhibitions industry—including senior leadership roles at IDG World Expo and 15 years as Sponsorship Director at DATAVERSITY—Warwick has built, scaled, and repaired event businesses across multiple sectors. He has generated hundreds of millions in event revenue, launched new products, and advised CEOs on how to turn events from cost centers into strategic assets.
The Annabelle Project reflects his belief that talent pipelines should be designed with the same rigor as revenue models. Through mentorship, exposure, and accountability, the program creates measurable career outcomes for college-age students—particularly from HBCUs and Hispanic-Serving Institutions—while delivering tangible ROI to participating organizations. Warwick is known for his direct, no-theory approach and his willingness to challenge industry assumptions that no longer serve business or talent.

Learning Objectives
1. Distinguish between engagement and long-term memory
2. Identify design elements that support retention and recall
3. Apply techniques that strengthen memory without increasing content volume
4. Build memory anchors into sessions, exhibits, and experiences Memory-anchoring micro breaks will be integrated to demonstrate retention strategies in practice.

Data is at the core of every successful event strategy, powering better decisions, personalized experiences, and measurable ROI. Splab is built as a collection of small, use-case–driven apps designed to help event teams make clearer decisions with the data they already have. EventPath is one of those mini apps. It focuses on a fundamental question every organizer faces: how do people actually find and decide to attend an event? By mapping audience paths across newsletters, communities, CRM lists, and historical attendee data, EventPath reveals channel overlap, contribution, and momentum before purchase. AI quietly supports this by connecting fragmented signals and surfacing patterns at scale—but the objective is simple: turn everyday engagement data into actions teams can confidently take across the event ecosystem.
Data is at the core of every successful event strategy, powering better decisions, personalized experiences, and measurable ROI. This Demo Day will explore how organizers can harness data from multiple touchpoints — registration, marketing, matchmaking, lead retrieval, onsite engagement, and post-show reporting, to drive continuous improvement. Learn how to transform raw information into actionable insights that elevate attendee satisfaction, exhibitor success, and organizational performance.
TalkValue is not a traditional event tech company, and we’re not a typical agency either. We build and operate what we call an Event Marketing Control Center for conference and exhibition teams. Most organizers don’t suffer from a lack of tools — they suffer from a lack of visibility. Registration data lives in one platform, CRM data in another, community conversations somewhere else, and reporting ends up in scattered spreadsheets. Decisions are then made on gut feeling, not intelligence. We unify those fragmented data sources and turn them into actionable intelligence — clear signals about where revenue is coming from, which cohorts are worth prioritizing, and where execution is getting stuck. From that intelligence, we help teams streamline manual workflows, automate what slows them down, and build a sustainable revenue engine. In the past 2.5 years, our team has supported over 200 events across the U.S., Japan, Hong Kong, and Korea. Sometimes we install the system and empower teams to run it themselves. Other times, we step in alongside them to execute. Either way, our role is the same: to help event organizations get out of their own way and operate with clarity, speed, and confidence.
