    Prior to Talley, Ksenija held several pivotal roles at the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), where she spearheaded initiatives like the ICCA Skills certification and the Association Impact Masterclass.     Emilie Perkins, CAE, CMP Fellow, CMM, PMP, CED, HMCC joined Raybourn Group International in 2019 and now serves as the Vice President of Client and Conference Services. In her 25+ year career in association management, she has designed, executed and evaluated over 1000 meetings of all sizes. She has extensive strength in Strategic Meeting Management, Marketing and Event Design. She is also an Adjunct Faculty at Indiana University where she has co-facilitated the Nonprofit Meeting Management Course since 2017.

     She graduated Marquette University and passionately believes in professional development - receiving her Certified Meeting Professional Designation (CMP) in 2009; Certified Association Executive (CAE) in 2014; Certificate in Meetings Management (CMM) in 2016; her Project Management Professional (PMP) in 2020; her Certified Event Designer (CED) designation in February 2021 and her Certificate in Healthcare Meeting Compliance (HMCC) in 2025. Site selection consists of advanced detailed planning, including access for attendees of all populations, organizational goals and objectives, exhibitor/attendee needs, and transportation. Careful consideration should be given to all factors that could impact the success of the overall exhibition.

    LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

    Attention is limited and easily disrupted in modern event environments. This session explores how people process information and allocate focus, and how event design decisions directly influence engagement throughout an experience. Participants will learn how to reduce cognitive overload, improve session flow, and design agendas and environments that support sustained attention without adding more content or complexity.

    2. Identify common event design choices that reduce focus and engagement  
    3. Apply practical strategies to support sustained attention

    16 April 2026 10:30-11:30 AM CST Session 2: Designing for Memory: Creating Events People Actually Remember  
    While events often deliver large volumes of information, much of it is forgotten shortly after the experience ends. This is the second session in the series and this session focuses on how memory is formed and how event design can support recall of key messages, moments, and experiences.  
    Participants will explore how session structure, storytelling, repetition, and sensory cues influence memory and learn how to design experiences that help important messages stick beyond the event itself.  
    Learning Objectives  
    1. Distinguish between engagement and long-term memory  
    2. Identify design elements that support retention and recall  
    3. Apply techniques that strengthen memory without increasing content volume  
    4. Build memory anchors into sessions, exhibits, and experiences Memory-anchoring micro breaks will be integrated to demonstrate retention strategies in practice. 


    23 April 2026 10:30-11:30 AM CST Session 3: Designing for Connection: How Events Build Trust, Belonging, and Meaningful Interaction 
    Connection is central to successful events. This session explores how people experience social environments and how event design influences trust, comfort, and participation. Participants will learn how layout, facilitation, pacing, and interaction design affect whether attendees feel included, engaged, and willing to participate, and how these factors shape overall event outcomes.  
    Learning Objectives 
    1. Understand how social environments influence engagement and trust  
    2. Identify barriers to interaction created by common event design choices  
    3. Design experiences that encourage meaningful connection  
    4. Apply inclusive strategies that support different engagement styles. Connection-focused micro breaks will be embedded to model interaction and reflection.

Young professionals aren’t avoiding our industry because they lack interest, they’re avoiding it because we’ve failed to clearly articulate the value of a career in events, provide credible on-ramps, and deliver early wins that justify long-term commitment. Career fairs, internships, and inspirational panels haven’t fixed the problem. In many cases, they’ve made it worse. This session will provide a case study into the Annabelle Project which was designed as a direct response to that failure.

    This class will be conducted VIRTUALLY through Zoom on 3/26/26 from 8:30am - 2:30pm CST. Those staying to take the exam will have an optional 30-minute study period followed by an hour for the exam. *CEMs who are recertifying and those taking the course as not part of the CEM program will be finished at 2:30pm CST. You must have a webcam to take this course.     PART ONE: DEFINE EXHIBITIONS

    • Use the CEIR Census and CEIR Index Report to gain an understanding of the current scope and performance of the exhibition industry
    • Understand the differences between business-to-business and business-to-consumer exhibitions
    • Explain the roles of the exhibition organizer, attendee and exhibitor
    • Identify the purposes for corporate private exhibitions and events and understand their target audiences
    • Discuss the principal ways that exhibitions can be grown 

    PART TWO: STRATEGIC ENTERPRISE MANAGEMENT: PROCESS AND OUTCOMES

    • Define strategic enterprise management (SEM)
    • Compare the various models of strategic planning
    • Identify and define the major components of a strategic plan
    • Understand experience design principles to optimize the overall experience of stakeholders and attendees

    Kerry is the Executive Director of the Raleigh Convention and Performing Arts Complex which encompasses the Raleigh Convention Center, Duke Energy Performing Arts Center, Red Hat Amphitheater and Walnut Creek Amphitheater. Previously, Kerry was the Assistant General Manager at the Cox Business Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma where the convention center won the Venue Excellence award in 2017. Kerry is a member of IAVM, IAEE, and PCMA, and has served on several boards/committees both within the industry and in her communities, most recently serving as IAVM’s Chair of the Board and a current member of IAEE’s CEM Commission. She was awarded Venues Today Woman of Influence in 2015 and Woman of Distinction in 2017. Kerry teaches at the Venue Management School yearly for IAVM, teaches CEM domestically and internationally, and advises for Meredith College, a private women’s liberal arts college and coeducational graduate school in Raleigh, North Carolina. Kerry is a graduate of the University of Michigan majoring in Business, Economics, and Communications.
