This session explores the evolving role of collaboration in higher education, examining how partnerships between universities, industry, and community organizations can enrich both teaching and research. Drawing on real-world examples and experience from Edinburgh Napier University's International Festival & Event Management programme, Dr. David Jarman will candidly explore both the exciting possibilities and the very real challenges that collaboration presents, from live projects and guest lectures to joint research and CPD. Attendees will leave with a clearer understanding of how to build, sustain, and maximize meaningful partnerships with higher education institutions.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify the range of collaborative activities available between higher education institutions and industry partners, including live projects, research opportunities, and continuing professional development (CPD).
- Evaluate the mutual benefits of academic-industry collaboration for students, faculty, institutions, and industry partners, alongside the common barriers and tensions that can limit their effectiveness.
- Apply practical strategies to initiate or strengthen partnerships with higher education institutions that deliver value for both industry professionals and academic stakeholders.
